CEO Letter: When it’s not picky eating
Published by Jaclyn Pederson, MHI on Jun 23, 2026
I want to share a story that has stayed with me for years, because it’s one I hear in various forms from families across our community, and it’s the inspiration behind the exciting news I’m sharing today.
A mom reached out and told us she knew something wasn’t right with her son’s feeding. Mealtimes were a struggle. Her child wasn’t thriving the way she expected. But she didn’t have words for it, and she didn’t know where to turn. She felt completely alone.
Then one day she found our website. She saw a button that said “Get Help.” She clicked it.
That button gave her a name for what her family was going through, a path forward, and the knowledge that she wasn’t the only one. One click gave her community, helped her find a provider, and changed everything.
That is exactly why I’m so excited to share what we’ve been building: itsnotpickyeating.org.
For twenty years, Feeding Matters has been fighting to make sure no family has to figure this out alone. And while we’ve come so far in awareness, in research, and in building a community, you told us what families need most: clarity, and a place that feels made for them. Life is busy. A struggling child is exhausting. A parent searching for answers at 11pm deserves to find them right away, in language that meets them where they are.
For those of you who have been with us for a while, this is important to know: this is now the place to send families first.
We built a home, a dedicated, easy-to-navigate space just for families and individuals, where you can:
- Take a quick screening: a free, age-based questionnaire to complete and bring to your child’s provider to encourage a deeper evaluation
- Find a path forward: clear next steps, support, and resources to guide what comes next
- Access a provider directory: a database of providers searchable by location, specialty, and service to find providers who support children with feeding disorders and differences such as PFD and ARFID
We still have that “Get Help” button on feedingmatters.org, and now it leads somewhere even better.
This milestone isn’t the end of the journey for families. It’s the beginning, a clearer, kinder beginning than so many have had before. And that feels worth celebrating.
Thank you for being part of the community that made this possible. Every advocate, every donor, every professional who has carried this mission forward helped build what that mom needed, and what thousands of patients and families still need today.
With so much gratitude,
Jaclyn Pederson, MHI
