“Feeding requires the interaction and coordination of the central and peripheral nervous systems, the oropharyngeal mechanism, the cardiopulmonary system, and the GI tract with the support of the craniofacial and musculoskeletal systems.” (Goday et al., 2018)
While it seems as though feeding and swallowing should develop easily, if something goes wrong with one or more of the body’s systems listed above, it often times does not. When feeding and nourishing our children becomes difficult, it can leave us, as caregivers, feeling helpless.
Here at THERAPY 2000, highly qualified feeding and swallowing therapists hold certifications such as Board Certifications in Swallowing, Lactation Counseling, Neonatal Therapy, and for treatment techniques such as Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES). We are looking to help the whole child and the caregivers who love them so. If you are interested in learning more about our feeding and swallowing program, please contact us here.
