Hi there!

I’m Aubrey Phelps, a registered functional pediatric dietitian and certified lactation counselor. I’m the owner of Matrescence Nutrition, author of “The Big Book of Baby-Led Weaning”, creator of “Feeding Littles” a starting solids course, the head of the Medical Advisory Board for The Feeding Tube Foundation, and a consulting dietitian for Growing Independent Eaters, a home-based tube-weaning program. I’m also the momma to four littles and have navigated feeding challenges from tongue ties and colic, to tube-feeding and oral aversions.

My oldest daughter was born 10 weeks premature, severely growth restricted, and would go on to develop a severe feeding aversion that required her to be tube fed for the first year and a half of her life. What quickly became apparent during those first few months and years of her life was that so much of the focus from her medical team was on quantifiable metrics like growth percentiles, calories in, and volume consumed, while so very little thought to her (or our!) quality of life was given.

This experience is one I hear echoed over and over from families I work with and has become a central focus to my approach. I firmly believe that parenthood is hard enough; feeding your child shouldn’t be. My goal is to support families so their children are nourished and thriving in all facets of life, not just a growth chart. Whether that means working toward weaning off a feeding tube, modifying tube feeds to improve tolerance, introducing solids and supporting selective eating, or a second opinion on growth, especially if a medical team is solely focused with “catch-up growth”, my goal is to empower families to ask questions, seek options, and serve as a partner in their journey feeding their child.

Please feel free to contact me if any of this has resonated with you and you’d like to connect.
